Mater Hospital Trauma Phase

1 + la

Whitty Building

Project Description

MedProGas were initially engaged by JV Tierney in conjunction with Jones Engineering to assist in progressing the design development of the new Trauma Unit based in the the Mater Adult Hospital Whitty Building A & E Department.

The initial phase of works comprises of new Trauma Bays (part extension of the existing build) including clinical Treatment and Psychiatric bay beds. The area was a complex build as it included tie-in works within the busiest part of the 'live' hospital area. One of the most daunting challenges was maintaining hospital operations during construction, notably as the site served crucial functions, including catering, administration, and handling COVID-19 patient admissions. MedProGas ensured minimal disruption through meticulous planning and coordination with Jones Eng/ Linhams and hospital management, during tie-in work.

Following sugcecssful handover of the initial phase, 12 months later we progressed Phase la. The second phase of works was a development within the existing ED itself. It comprises of dual circuited supplies to 4 no. Trauma Bays and a separate CT Scanner. All works were completed within a live hospital environment and all tie-ins were successfully managed with minimal disruption to client services.

On completion on a phased basis, the medical gas installation was rigourously checked and verified by 3rd Party AE (Mr Graeme Dunn) appointed by the hospital. All systems were successfully verified/ validated and signed off to exacting HTM 0201 standards
